Founded in 1883, Allen-Stevenson is a K-8 independent school for boys with an enrollment of just under 450 students. Located in the heart of New York City’s Upper East Side, the School is a joyful, inclusive community. We are seeking a First Grade Associate for the 2025-2026 school year.

This full-time position starts on August 24, 2025, and is eligible for a complete benefits package. Compensation: $52,000-$65,000 commensurate with education and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide students with an emotionally safe environment
  • Support the two lead teachers in managing and supervising students
  • Support the lead teaching in planning and implementing instruction across subject areas
  • Teach a reading group
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Collaborate with the grade level team to develop curriculum and lessons for all subject areas
  • Help to assess and document student progress
  • With lead teacher support, create learning goals, expectations, and standards for student work
  • Maintain positive personal relationships with all students and their families

  • Establish a positive, working relationship with Head Teachers
  • Attend scheduled grade level and schoolwide meetings
  • Continue to acquire new knowledge and implement best practices
  • Share ideas and skills with colleagues while being open to different perspectives
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and positive relationships with colleagues
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower Division and Assistant Head of Lower Division
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, including being punctual

Key Competencies and Qualifications

  • An understanding and desire to learn more about how boys learn best
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Strong organizational skills (planning, record keeping, emails)
  • Experience working with young children in an academic setting
  • A commitment to building an equitable and inclusive classroom and school community
  • Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with teaching online and/or have experience with online learning tools (Seesaw, Zoom, Google, Clever, etc. )
  • Ability to support Head Teacher in the social-emotional and academic growth of boys
  • Strong communications skills both written and verbal
