Summary
These Foreign Affairs Officer (FAO) positions are in the Office of the Secretary, Policy Planning Council, (S/P). One position will serve as Senior FAO with the primary responsibility of conducting policy formulation and analysis, managing public diplomacy on policy issues and interagency policy coordination. The second position will serve as the Senior FAO responsible for coordinating the Policy Risk and Opportunity Planning (PROP) Group and managing the PROP cycle.
Duties
Help
Research and develop an analysis of issues being considered for action by the Secretary, Deputy Secretaries, and other Principals covering all areas of US foreign policy and relations with other countries, international and regional institutions.
Coordinate substantive information and materials with counterparts within and outside of the Department and synthesize this information into policy papers, briefing materials, and talking points for the Secretary and other Principals.
Prepare and present analyses, provides guidance, solicits information, defends proposals, and negotiates agreements to the Secretary, Deputy Secretaries, Under Secretaries, and the S/P Director.
Develop and maintain a network of contacts throughout the Department, other executive departments and agencies with foreign affairs concerns, Congressional staffs, non-governmental organizations with similar interests, and academic institutions.
