The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented political writer to ghost-write a daily column for a prominent political figure with a large and highly engaged national audience. This is a part-time contract role producing one piece of content per day, Monday through Friday, in a well-established and distinctive voice.
This is not a bylined position. All content publishes under the principal's name. Writers who have done content work for think tanks, campaigns, elected officials, or political media organizations and are comfortable with that arrangement are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Be Writing
Each day's column runs approximately 900-1200 words for a column — a longer-form analytical piece that puts the top stories of the day in broader context and helps readers understand what it all means.
The voice is direct, credentialed, emotionally resonant, and patriotic. It reflects a pro-democracy, institutionalist sensibility that values democratic norms above partisan loyalty. Writers with a reflexively partisan framework will not be a good fit. You will be expected to learn and reproduce that voice consistently.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a current or former political journalist, congressional staffer, or political communications professional who writes fast, thinks clearly, and has strong news judgment. You should be able to identify the most important narrative arcs of the day, find the right angle, and produce clean compelling copy in a few hours.
Specific requirements include:
- Strong judgement for editorial selection and framing
- A demonstrated ability to write fast and accurately under deadline
- Strong familiarity with current US political news and congressional dynamics
- Comfort writing in someone else's established voice
- Availability to produce one piece daily. Deadline initially negotiable based on writer’s schedule, but will be consistent once set.
NOTE: AI assistance is acceptable for research and drafting efficiency.
Final copy must be polished, on-voice, and ready to publish with minimal editorial intervention. We are looking for someone with demonstrated professional political writing experience who can hit the ground running from week one.
Compensation
Competitive monthly retainer commensurate with experience. Range discussed with qualified candidates.
