The Grants Manager will play a critical role in supporting CPLP’s grant writing/reporting efforts. This position is responsible for overseeing the grant process from finding opportunities to submitting applications and reporting on outcomes. The Grants Manager ensures grant funds are used as intended, maintaining detailed records, reporting data, and tracking grant metrics across multiple funding sources. The Grants Manager collaborates across teams to research, identify, and apply for relevant grants, and acts as a liaison between funders and the organization. This position will work closely with the Development and Grant Manager with fundraising efforts as well as donor cultivation.

Description

Grant Writing/Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of grants, including prospecting, application preparation, submission, reporting, and closeout.
  • Research and identify new public and private grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and programs. 
  • Prepare and submit well researched, detailed, and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials in collaboration with program and leadership staff  within established deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain a grants calendar to ensure timely submission of applications, reports, renewals, and compliance requirements. 
  • Track grant deliverables and metrics, deadlines, and performance metrics to ensure compliance with funder requirements.
  • Coordinate with finance and program teams to prepare accurate grant budgets, invoices, and financial reports.
  • Create accurate, detailed grant reports that state activities for funding periods and lay groundwork for future efforts.
  • Maintain organized grant records, files, and documentation to support compliance and potential monitoring our audit processes. This includes managing the Grants Google Folder.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with funders for grant-related communication, questions, and activities.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with foundations and grant-makers to ensure long-term partnership and funding opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison between funders and the organization.
  • Achieve annual revenue targets from grant and foundation funding sources and expand funding partnerships.
  • Assist leadership in developing funding strategies and diversifying revenue sources.
  • Support program staff in gathering data and outcomes needed for grant applications and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private grant requirements, including recordkeeping and documentation standards.
  • Establish a communication schedule with funders, including regular updates, and reporting.
  • Prepare internal reports and updates for leadership regarding grant status, funding pipelines, and funding gaps.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure grant-funded projects are implemented in accordance with approved scopes and timelines.
  • Assist Developments Manager with fundraising and donor cultivation.
  • Assist with development communication which includes Annual Report and quarterly Newsletter.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, communications, social sciences, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of grant writing and grant management experience, preferably within a nonprofit, legal services, housing, or public interest organization.
  • Demonstrated success securing and managing government grants (federal, state, or local) and private foundation funding.
  • Experience managing grants with complex reporting, invoicing, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with funding streams related to housing stability, tenant rights, homelessness prevention, civil legal aid, or community development strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of grant budgeting, financial tracking, and allowable costs in collaboration with finance staff.
  • Experience coordinating data collection and outcomes reporting with program staff, including attorneys, advocates, and case managers.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to clearly communicate program impact and outcomes.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to track multiple grants, deadlines, and reporting requirements simultaneously.
  • Experience maintaining grant compliance documentation and supporting monitoring visits, audits, or funder reviews.
  • Ability to translate complex programmatic work (such as litigation, policy advocacy, or tenant representation) into compelling grant narratives.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and build strong working relationships with leadership, attorneys, finance staff, and program teams.
  • Commitment to the mission of expanding access to justice, protecting tenant rights, and supporting housing stability for low-income communities.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Proficiency with grant tracking systems, spreadsheets, and nonprofit databases; experience with case management systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly around individual, corporate, and foundation fundraising.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with many competing priorities. This requires an ability to strategize and plan ahead to ensure that all competing priorities are met.
  • Computer proficiency and practical experience with Microsoft Office. Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient in relevant software.
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and individual donors and interact via telephone, email and in-person interactions.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends, as needed.

CPLP’s mission is to improve access to housing legal services for low-income Coloradans by: providing legal advice and representation to low-income individuals through a combination of our staff attorneys and our substantial volunteer attorney network; educating and counseling individuals and their support organizations on housing legal issues common to low-income Coloradans; and supporting groups advocating for new protective laws and procedures.
