Former Members of Congress (FMC) is a nonprofit that supports Congress by creating bipartisan dialogue led by current and former members of the House and Senate. We work to strengthen the Congress through promoting a collaborative approach to policymaking. Housed within FMC are the Congressional Study Groups on Japan, Germany, Europe, Korea, and India. The Congressional Study Groups are premier legislative exchanges that support bipartisan relationship-building efforts between the United States Congress and these allies abroad.

India Program Officer Position Description:
FMC has an opening for a Program Officer. We are seeking a qualified candidate to help build out FMC’s new Congressional Study Group on India. Successful applicants will have an understanding of both the U.S.-India relationship and the Indian political landscape. This position works closely with our Congressional Study Group team.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and execute programming for the Congressional Study Group on India including, but not limited to; roundtable discussions, receptions, and study tours to India and other countries for current and former Members of Congress and Congressional staff.
  • Maintain and grow network of high-level contacts and stakeholders that participate in our programs.
  • Nurture existing institutional grants and support development of new funding opportunities.
  • Write grant proposals and reports.
  • Assist with our external communications efforts, including website, social media.
  • Manage relationships with vendors.
  • Occasionally support other programming per supervisor’s direction.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written professional communication skills.
  • Be a self-starter, independently keeping on top of both long-term and short-term deadlines.
  • Be motivated (you believe in our mission), organized (you enjoy using and building systems), flexible (you can respond to changing priorities), and resourceful with a love for learning (if you don’t know how to do something, you figure it out or you know who to ask).
  • Have authorization to work in the US.
  • Be willing to travel domestically and overseas.
  • Be team-oriented, with highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Have an interest in and general knowledge of the U.S. Congress, Indian politics/society, and Indo-Pacific affairs.
  • Have basic experience with event planning. Experience interacting and engaging VIPs is a plus.
  • Have a BA degree in a related field.
  • Capitol Hill experience is a plus.

FMC offers a competitive salary in the range of $54,000-59,000 (commensurate with experience) and generous benefits: PTO, Sick Leave, Paid Federal Holidays, Health/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability, and generous retirement contributions.

All new FMC staff members are expected to work at our office in downtown Washington, DC. After a 90-day period, new FMC employees are eligible to apply for FMC’s telecommuting hybrid schedule: working remotely and working at the FMC office.
