The office of Councilmember Vivian Moreno proudly serves the residents of District 8 and works to promote equity, sustainability, community engagement and improved quality of life for all San Diegans. Our team works closely with constituents, community organizations, and City departments to support our residents. We are seeking a motivated and community-oriented individual for an internship position with our office. Schedule is flexible between 15-20 hours per week. Interns will gain firsthand experience in local government, public policy, and constituent services while supporting day-to-day operations for the council office.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with correspondence, phone calls, emails, and community concerns, researching local policy, preparing materials for meetings/events, attending Saturday community events, supporting social media and performing general administrative tasks.
Qualifications: Strong written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented, interest in public service, government or community engagement, reliability, organization, and bilingualism are a plus.

Overview
The City of San Diego consists of more than 30 operational departments. Internships are available when project-based opportunities arise amongst departments. With general supervision, an internship provides part-time employment opportunities for students enrolled in a continuing education, traditional education, or training program to gain hands-on experience related to their career interests or area of study.
Example Of Duties
Duties and responsibilities assigned to interns will vary depending on the department they are assigned; these include but are not limited to: assisting with planning events, conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, assisting with projects, preparing reports and presentations, attending internal and external stakeholders’ meetings, and field work. Work will be project-based, temporary, and not compromise the work of a bargaining unit employee.
