Position Title: K-12 and Youth Programs Educator
Reports to: Director of Education
Location: MOHAI, at Lake Union Park’s historic Armory building
Classification: Non-exempt; Full-time; Hourly
Schedule: Weekdays, with some evenings and weekends
Rate of Pay: $25-$33 per hour

Position Description:
The primary role of the K-12 and Youth Programs Educator is to support the Education department’s mission in presenting and developing high-quality education programs to a broad audience. The Educator is responsible for program delivery, program supply maintenance, and some administrative support of the department, as well as assisting with the development, evaluation, and facilitation of a variety of educational programs. Since Education is one of three key programming areas at MOHAI, this individual contributes to the overall mission, strategy, and values of the museum. The K-12 and Youth Programs Educator is a member of the Education team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Facilitate high-quality school and youth programs as part of a team of educators, including direct instruction and/or support of all on and off-site K-12, teen, and youth and family programs.
• Ensure that all interactions are culturally responsive, respectful, and based on a foundation of MOHAI’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
• Efficiently coordinate the details and physical care of the Portable Museum program, including inventory, receiving, moving, lifting, cleaning, and maintenance of approximately 40 education kits and trunks.
• Support a variety of programs in collaboration with the Education team, including teen programs, family programs, summer camps, department events, and Education department internships. This includes activity tables set-up and break-down.
• Assist with the development and evaluation of new school, teen, and family programs, including development of curriculum materials and teacher resources that support MOHAI’s mission and current & upcoming exhibits, as well as local and national education standards.
• Deliver programs and develop activities that are responsive to a variety of student needs.
• Manage MOHAI’s Education collection of historic artifacts, replicas, and other primary resource materials.
• Maintain classroom organization and tidiness, move and/or set up tables and furniture before and clean-up and break-down after programs.
• General administrative support for Education department.
• Assist the K-12 and Youth Programs Coordinators with the facilitation of the MOHAI Youth Advisor (MYA) program as needed.
• Opportunity to serve on IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) Committees.
• Attendance at museum-sponsored events may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience teaching in formal or informal educational settings.
• Experience and passion for working with youth and diverse communities.
• Exceptional presentation and public speaking skills. Comfortable talking and providing instructions to groups of youth and adults.
• Work effectively in a high-volume, high-energy environment; keep a positive attitude under pressure.
• Able to actively problem-solve, working independently as well as part of a team.
• Able to manage workflow around multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Teams.
• Available to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
• Able to lift education kits and trunks weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license for possible education kit/trunk delivery and outreach.
• Possess or willing to acquire CPR (including child and infant) and First Aid certification.
• Bilingual and multilingual skills valued.
• Enthusiasm for MOHAI’s exhibits, programs, and mission.
