Job Description

About Trendline

Trendline Strategies is a boutique strategic advisory firm that helps leaders navigate the intersection of policy, business, and law. We connect insights across the White House, Congress, and the courts to reveal patterns missed by single-arena monitoring. This 360° perspective powers how we build coalitions, orchestrate public-affairs campaigns that move decision-makers, and advise on positioning that creates competitive advantage. We don’t just react to headlines—we understand the trendlines that shape them.

Role Description

Trendline Strategies is seeking a Law and Policy Fellow—ideally a law student or public policy student—to support our work at the intersection of business, law, and public policy.

Trendline currently focuses on four key areas:

  • Workforce
  • Corporate Governance
  • Health
  • Technology

This is a 3-month fellowship that offers substantive, hands-on experience with issues at the crossroads of law, policy, and business. The Fellow will work closely with senior team members on research and analysis related to legislative, regulatory, and policy developments affecting our clients and coalition partners.

The fellowship is structured as a 3-month term with the potential to extend based on performance, ongoing need, and mutual interest.

We are happy to work with your law school or graduate program to help you obtain academic credit or meet externship / practicum requirements, where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

Legal and policy research

  • Conduct research on federal and state legislation, regulations, case law, and policy proposals relevant to Trendline’s focus areas and client priorities.
  • Draft research memos, issue briefs, and summaries of key developments.

Monitoring and analysis

  • Track hearings, agency actions, comment periods, and other developments in workforce, corporate governance, health, and technology.
  • Help maintain tracking documents, timelines, and analytical frameworks for legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Assist with data collection, organization, and basic analysis.

Writing and content development

  • Draft and edit policy summaries, talking points, backgrounders, and slide decks.
  • Assist in identifying and developing content for blogs and social media.

General support

  • Scheduling and meeting coordination (as needed)
  • Participate in a weekly meeting (in person or video).
  • Be available for periodic calls to discuss projects, provide updates, and receive feedback.

Time Commitment & Compensation

  • This is a 3-month fellowship.
  • Fellows are expected to commit approximately 10-15 hours per week to their research and writing duties.
  • This includes participation in a weekly meeting (phone or video) plus periodic calls to discuss ongoing projects.
  • The fellowship provides a $1,500/month stipend.

Qualifications

Applicants must be critical thinkers, intellectually versatile, and demonstrate strong research and writing skills. They should exhibit good judgment, discretion, and a commitment to Trendline’s mission of advancing responsible business practices.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Current law student (JD, LLM) or graduate student or recent graduate in public policy, public administration, political science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated research and writing abilities, including the capacity to synthesize complex legal and policy information accurately, clearly and concisely.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong interest in one or more of Trendline’s key areas: Workforce, Corporate Governance, Health, or Technology.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, government agency, Hill office, advocacy organization, or policy-oriented internship is a plus, but not required.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit:

  • A current resume
  • A brief cover letter highlighting relevant coursework, experience, writing background, and areas of policy interest

(Optional but encouraged: a short writing sample—such as a legal memo, policy brief, or excerpt of a research paper, 3–5 pages max.)
