Job Description
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) returns international fugitives to face justice and obtains essential evidence for criminal investigations and prosecutions worldwide to keep our country safe and to uphold the rule of law. As part of this mission, OIA is responsible for international extraditions, mutual legal assistance, sensitive overseas operations, and the international prisoner transfer program. OIA supports the full range of criminal, national security, and terrorism cases and serves not only all federal prosecutors and law enforcement agents, but all state and local authorities.
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) is seeking interns for the Summer 2026 semester. Volunteer Legal Interns assist Division attorneys on a variety of case-related work, including: assisting OIA’s supervisors, attorneys, and International Affairs Specialists in ensuring the effective and efficient processing of extradition, mutual legal assistance and prisoner transfer requests by implementing sound project management fundamentals and lean processes, proactively engaging stakeholders, and performing necessary administrative and office support functions.
All first-, second- or third-year law students, joint degree, or LL.M. students can apply; Micro-soft office skills, database management, and any previous legal experience welcomed. Knowledge of a foreign language is desirable but not essential.
Must be U.S. citizen to apply. There is an 8 minimum number of weeks required for this internship.
An offer of a position as a law student intern is contingent upon successful completion of a suitability review and a favorable determination based on information provided in their security forms, a credit report, and fingerprint check.
