ABOUT THE POSITION
The newly created Legacy Giving Manager position has primary responsibility for the growth, management and enhancement of the planned giving program at WBUR. The Legacy Giving Manager will educate prospective donors about a range of planned gift options, secure planned gift commitments, and oversee the administration of planned gifts that have reached maturity, in addition to stewarding the Legacy Circle.
An experienced, collaborative, mission-driven, and entrepreneurial leader, they will excel at frontline fundraising and provide detail-oriented operational program management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management
● Plan and direct the ongoing work of WBUR’s planned giving program, including establishing objectives and priorities for the program
● Plan and manage planned giving marketing efforts, including but not limited to direct response programs, newsletters, website, on-air campaigns
● Develop and implement appropriate stewardship plan to recognize donors and Legacy Giving Circle members
● Assist in strategy-setting sessions with leadership giving officers to help identify and strategize on planned giving prospects within their portfolios
● Cultivate relationships with Boston University planned giving colleagues, attorneys, financial planners and other estate planning professionals regarding gift opportunities for clients and provide material for their use
Donor & Prospect Development
● Identify, cultivate and solicit donors to secure commitments of planned gifts, making use of professional information on gifting instruments (e.g., bequests, annuities and trusts)
● Respond to and manage donor inquiries with appropriate information on bequests, life income gifts and other gift planning vehicles
● Prepare gift proposals for prospective donors and their advisers, both in response to specific inquiries and as a proactive strategy
● Draft and edit written materials and proposals for use in connection with the solicitation, closing and stewardship of planned gifts
● Steward planned gift donors through in‐person contacts, telephone, email and correspondence, events, and other recognition mechanisms
Planned Giving Operations
● In partnership with colleagues, process, manage and acknowledge gifts from estates and trusts, oversee the status of all open estates, trusts and charitable gift annuities
● Ensure that active estates are being administered in a timely, judicious manner
● Work closely with development colleagues to develop monthly reports that reflect caseload activity and performance
● Act as project manager and liaison to Boston University Gifts & Records and BU Planned Giving Office
● Update prospect records in donor database with activities, such as phone calls, written communications, and visit details, as well as entering opportunities for prospects
Qualifications:
● A self-starting work style, with a proven ability to meet project deadlines and maintain positive, respectful professional relationships
● Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex subjects in a clear and compelling manner
● Enthusiasm for meeting and interacting with potential donors one-on-one while exercising sensitivity, tact, and discretion
● Comfortable working in and maintaining donor database
● A strong belief in the mission of WBUR and the importance of public media
