Job Description
Senator Andy Kim seeks an experienced Legislative Aide to cover a portfolio dedicated to transportation issues related, and unrelated, to matters within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as well as more broadly across the state of New Jersey. This is not an entry-level position and previous experience with the issues that fall within the portfolio is required.
The ideal applicant will think strategically, have extensive professional relationships throughout the portfolio’s landscape, excellent organization and communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and plans legislative initiatives and advises the Senator, Chief of Staff (as needed), Legislative Director, and Legislative Assistants on legislative issues within the transportation issue area;
- Monitors legislative and policy developments in transit and transportation and other issues, as assigned;
- Drafts and responds to constituent correspondence on transit and transportation and other issue areas, as assigned;
- Meets with stakeholder groups, other Senate offices; Committee Members/staff; and relevant federal agencies;
- Tracks legislation and other developments in assigned portfolio and briefs Legislative Assistants, the Legislative Director, Chief of Staff (as needed), and Senator, as well as other staff members;
- Drafts and marks up bills and amendments, and attends Committee hearings;
- Performs special projects assigned by the Senator and/or other staff members.
Preferred Experience:
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience
