Job Description
Congresswoman Williams seeks a legislative director to manage an active legislative team and advise the Congresswoman on policy strategy. The ideal candidate will have management experience and four years of Hill and/or comparable advocacy experience, familiarity with congressional process and procedure, and a demonstrated ability to manage legislative projects. The candidate will have the creativity, drive, and confidence to propose original and compelling legislative work, including drafting legislation, hearing questions, and oversight letters that resonate with our diverse constituents. This is not an entry level position.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Manages three to four staffers and develops policy and legislative strategy in close consultation with the Member and Chief of Staff.
- Works closely with the communications and district teams to successfully message and build constituent relationships around legislative issues.
- Develops and reviews memos, remarks, committee materials, and other briefing materials for the Member/staff.
- Manages and advances an individual portfolio of legislative issues.
- Manages the progression of bills with which the Congresswoman is involved as they move from Committee to the floor.
- Recommends strategies and tactics on bills and positions.
- Monitors and manages activity on the House Floor and the Member’s committees and works with the legislative team to develop vote recommendations.
- Manages the office’s robust constituent correspondence program.
- Builds relationships with district and national stakeholders and advocacy organizations, including tracking relevant state and local policy changes and working with local officials.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff.
