LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION ASSISTANT
MAINE STATE LEGISLATURE
Augusta, Maine
The Maine Legislature’s Legislative Information Office, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking applicants for LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION ASSISTANT. This position performs live bill tracking, data entry and other clerical tasks, and provides general information to legislative staff offices, legislators, governmental agencies, and the public. Employees in this position work onsite at the State House, are enthusiastic about public service and supporting the work of the Maine Legislature, and conduct themselves in a confidential, professional and nonpartisan manner. Overtime is required during the legislative session. Consistent and reliable attendance, and the ability to adhere to legislative schedule demands, including overtime, are essential functions of this position.
Qualifications: At a minimum, the successful candidate will possess a high school diploma; at least one year of clerical, secretarial, or other applicable experience; demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative; demonstrated competence in common computer applications; excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; strong attention to detail; and ability and willingness to work overtime and after 5:00 p.m. as needed with minimal supervision, and often with short notice and under pressure. Prior legislative experience preferred but not required
Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $49,462 to $70,262. The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include $15.22 for dental insurance; 14.06% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and at least 85% ($508.90) of health insurance premiums.
