Job Description

Description

The Alliance for American Leadership (https://A4AL.org/) is on a mission to restore and reaffirm America’s role in the world through smart, strategic, and effective international assistance. We’re bringing together a bipartisan coalition of experts, business leaders, students, and citizens to defend programs that have saved 90 million lives over the last two decades - while strengthening America’s global leadership. If you believe in a strong, principled, and effective U.S. foreign policy, we want to hear from you.

We are currently seeking a Legislative Intern to provide administrative and research support across multiple teams as they engage in congressional outreach, policy strategy, and public affairs work. This is a clerical-facing position ideal for someone interested in the nuts and bolts of legislative advocacy and looking to gain exposure to how a mission-driven organization supports its government relations work behind the scenes.

Responsibilities:

The Legislative Intern will help maintain internal tracking systems for congressional engagement, including logs of outreach, meetings, and follow-up. They will assist in preparing and organizing briefing materials, maintaining contact databases, tracking bill progress and hearing schedules, and keeping team members informed of relevant legislative updates. Additional responsibilities may include note-taking during virtual briefings or committee hearings, formatting and proofreading memos, and coordinating internal document storage to ensure consistency and accessibility.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for candidates who are reliable, detail-oriented, and organized, with strong written communication skills. An interest in Congress, foreign policy, or nonprofit advocacy is helpful, but no prior policy experience is required. Familiarity with platforms such as Congress.gov or C-SPAN is a plus, but not expected.

This is a fully remote, volunteer position with flexible hours. DMV-based interns may be asked to assist with in-person events such as Hill Days or advocacy meetings on an as-needed basis.
