Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) is a non-profit law firm serving the 22 parishes east of the Atchafalaya basin. We provide free civil legal aid to low-income households. Our attorneys serve this region from offices in Baton Rouge, Covington, Gretna, Hammond, Houma, and New Orleans. SLLS has received national and local awards for its outstanding work.

SLLS is currently looking to fill:

LITIGATION AND ADVOCACY DIRECTOR, New Orleans

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Oversees the development of the firm’s major/complex litigation and law reform advocacy and assists the Executive Director, Program Services in the planning and development of the firm’s general litigation and advocacy. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, working remotely and from the New Orleans office.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Litigation and Advocacy Director is under the supervision of the Executive Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

The Litigation and Advocacy Director supervises assigned attorneys and clerical staff in their unit or office, in addition to those delegated by the Executive Director or management committee. Also, indirectly supervise all program service staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Member of the Louisiana bar or willing to take the first available exam.
Five years of experience in the practice of law with substantial experience in complex and sophisticated litigation in federal and state civil trial and appellate practice.

Comprehensive knowledge of poverty law.
Demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills and ability to work closely with the executive directors and attorney staff.
A genuine interest in the firm and its major purpose - to provide the full protection and benefit of the law to people who cannot afford to employ their own counsel.

This position will be full-time with a salary range of $85,000 – $120,000, depending on experience. Additional compensation for bilingualism.

SLLS full-time employees are prohibited from engaging in the outside practice of law.
