Overview
Founded in Chicago in 2005, MetroSquash is an after-school, weekend, and summer program that provides transformative, life changing opportunities for underserved youth. After 13 years of successful programming for public school students on Chicago’s south side, MetroSquash will expand to Evanston in the fall of 2018.
The Manager of College & Careers, based at our Chicago location, is responsible for overseeing all efforts to prepare students for postsecondary success. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual eager to join a passionate team of professionals committed to high-quality, high-impact services. The position will report to and be supported by the Chief Program Officer (CPO) of MetroSquash.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and evaluate all College & Careers programming including college access and success, career development, and internship and job placement services.
- Lead, inspire, and support the College & Careers Team consisting of (1) High School Coordinator, and (1) College & Careers Coordinator, providing direct-support and supervision on an ongoing basis.
- In collaboration with the CPO, cultivate meaningful relationships with employers, campus career services, and other potential partners, helping to establish MetroSquash as a leading partner in student career development and job placement.
- Provide individualized support of MetroSquash college students, Year 2 and beyond, by monitoring their academic progress, addressing their socio-emotional needs, implementing a career plan, and serving as a liaison when needed.
- Manage the MetroSquash Scholarship, disseminating funds to students timely and efficiently and keeping accurate record of all transactions.
- Collaborate with members of program leadership including the Manager of Social Work & Supportive Services, and Manager of Academics & High School Placement to ensure program alignment with MetroSquash mission, goals, and values.
- Collaborate with the MetroSquash|Evanston Team, supporting with College Access and Readiness programming and sharing knowledge and community with the satellite site. Implement measurement systems aligned with current MetroSquash outcomes to assess and demonstrate program effectiveness.
- Provide updates for internal and external stakeholders, including staff, families, MetroSquash Board of Directors, and the general MetroSquash community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Qualities: Candidates should possess the following: Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, or related field, Master’s Degree a plus; 3-4 years of experience working with traditionally underrepresented college students preferred; strong knowledge of college admissions/college access landscape; demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience; strong analytical skills; results-oriented with impeccable attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of meeting the needs of stakeholders. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a van required.
Hours: General hours are Monday through Friday 10am-6pm, though adjustments are necessary to the organization’s response to COVID-19. The position entails weekend work – particularly on Saturdays during the school year, and eventual travel to college campuses during the academic year.
