Job Description

About Society Hill Synagogue

Society Hill Synagogue is an independent congregation, rooted in tradition and flourishing with life. Our services are based on Conservative liturgy while incorporating influences from the Reconstructionist, Renewal, and Reform movements, and beyond. We emphasize lifelong learning, social action, soulful music and prayer, and sacred community.

We pride ourselves on being warm, welcoming, and intergenerational. We embrace our diverse membership, including interfaith couples and families, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people of color, and people of all abilities.

As our congregation grows, we are creating a new role that combines relationship-building and communications leadership to strengthen belonging, care, and connection across our community.

Position Summary

The Manager of Community Engagement & Communications helps ensure that every congregant feels welcomed, connected, and cared for through strong communications and storytelling; serving as a welcoming point of contact for prospective and new members; and coordinating outreach, pastoral care support (hesed), and development stewardship.

This role supports membership engagement, pastoral care coordination, donor stewardship, and synagogue communications, working closely with clergy, staff, and lay leaders.

This is a relationship-centered position that uses communications as a primary tool for building community.
