Position Overview

The Manager of Grassroots Advocacy supports and operationalizes the IMF’s national grassroots advocacy program, mobilizing patients, caregivers, and supporters in alignment with the organization’s federal policy priorities.

Working under the direction of the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy, this role is responsible for executing grassroots campaigns, coordinating advocate engagement, overseeing training initiatives, and managing the operational components of national advocacy efforts. The Manager ensures that advocates are prepared, informed, and effectively engaged in activities designed to support IMF’s legislative and regulatory strategy.

This is an exciting and dynamic role for a community-driven professional who excels in program execution, training, and stakeholder coordination within a policy-driven environment.

Reports to the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy and works closely with internal policy, communications, and program teams to support coordinated advocacy initiatives.

Travel Expectations

This is a remote position. Domestic travel is required for advocacy events, Hill Days, coalition meetings, and select IMF organizational programs. Travel frequency (approx. 25%) will vary based on legislative priorities and event schedules.

This is an exempt position with a salary range of $65,000 - 75,000 per year, DOE.

Key Responsibilities:

Grassroots Program Execution

  • Implement grassroots advocacy campaigns aligned with strategic priorities established by Public Policy leadership.
  • Execute multi-channel advocacy initiatives, including digital action alerts and coalition-based activities.
  • Monitor legislative timelines and coordinate mobilization efforts as directed.

Hill Days & Congressional Engagement Support

  • Support planning and execution of IMF advocacy days and Congressional engagement events, including virtual and in-person Hill Days.
  • Coordinate scheduling logistics, advocate participation, and materials preparation in alignment with agenda items, target offices, and messaging determined by Public Policy leadership.
  • Lead advocate training and readiness preparation for Congressional meetings.
  • Ensure advocates are briefed, equipped, and aligned with legislative strategy prior to engagement.

Advocacy Education & Masterclass Program

  • Oversee operational delivery of IMF’s Advocacy Masterclass training program.
  • Maintain and update training materials to ensure advocates are prepared for effective federal engagement.
  • Facilitate webinars, training sessions, and preparatory briefings.
  • Develop structured engagement pathways to strengthen advocate retention and leadership development.

Advocate Network Management

  • Recruit, grow, and steward a national network of patient, caregiver, and supporter advocates.
  • Maintain consistent communication cadence through newsletters, updates, and virtual meetings.
  • Identify and prepare advocates for participation in Congressional meetings, coalition efforts, and public engagement opportunities.
  • Represent the grassroots advocacy program at IMF meetings, patient education programs, and related organizational events to support advocate recruitment and engagement; domestic travel required as needed.

Coalition & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in grassroots-focused coalition activities and joint advocacy initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Policy and Communications teams to ensure message alignment and campaign amplification.

Reporting & Operational Oversight

  • Track and report engagement metrics, campaign performance, and participation outcomes.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance program efficiency and impact.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, communications, public health, or related field required
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in advocacy, government relations, nonprofit engagement, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating advocacy campaigns or stakeholder engagement initiatives
  • Familiarity with the federal legislative and regulatory process
  • Experience developing or delivering training programs preferred
  • Experience working with patient, caregiver, or volunteer communities preferred
  • Healthcare, oncology, or patient advocacy experience strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Willingness to travel 25 %

  • Ability to move items weighing up to 25lbs, bending and reaching throughout the day as needed.
