PR and Media Relations Manager
Full-time, salaried position (range starts at $45,000 per year)

ABOUT THIS POSITION: PBT is looking for a strong writer to tell the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre story. The public relations and media manager is responsible for general editing and copywriting, managing the copy on owned media such as blog posts and websites, collaborating on social media and generating earned media. The media manager works closely with the artistic director, the executive director, the company and press contacts. This position reports to the director of marketing and communications. Supervisory duties include mentoring and managing interns.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: While no two days are quite the same, essential functions include:
- Pitching, securing and coordinating all media coverage, photoshoots, feature stories, etc.
- Advising internally on all aspects of the external communications plan and strategy
- Writing and distributing press releases, media advisories, announcements and other materials that promote PBT events, performances and other news
- Providing overall management both internally and externally for all interviews, stories, media coverage or similar events for the organization
- Writing or editing copy for programs, scripts, web, blogs, social media,direct mail, donor and patron newsletters and email, print and digital marketing campaigns as required
- Partnering with colleagues to create engaging social media captions and content
- Monitoring the PBT blog using SEO best practices and trends to maximize blog traffic

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or similar, required
- Minimum two years of experience in a public relations role, required
- Understanding of social media trends, preferred
- Familiarity with writing in AP Style
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, project management skills with an ability to prioritize needs, required
- Knowledge of local performing arts landscape, preferred
- General dance knowledge, preferred
- Writing portfolio required

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States This position is a full-time position located in Pittsburgh, Pa. This is not a fully remote position but PBT is very open to hybrid and flexible arrangements. All candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the region. PBT requires that all candidates are fully vaccinated.
