Part of a global Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) team and reporting to the Director, Public Affairs & Communications, this position is responsible for helping to manage a wide range of communication activities for front-line travel servicing and support teams within the Global Services Group (GSG) at American Express.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The Manager, Public Affairs & Communications, will help craft compelling executive communications for senior leaders within the Global Servicing Operations & Enablement business, which includes Travel & Lifestyle Servicing, and develop and execute global forums and communication approaches that engage and inspire colleagues. The Manager will also create strategic communication and change management plans for a variety of initiatives across all servicing teams.
Working as part of a broader team, the Manager will also contribute to the development of effective public relations and social media strategies, with a focus on promoting how American Express Travel &Lifestyle Servicing is a key differentiator for the company. In addition, the Manager will also support customer crisis response activities and other customer communications, as well as select high-profile external speaking engagements for key executives.
This multi-faceted role requires a creative and flexible self-starter who has a broad range of communications experience, can work independently and as part of a team. The role also works closely with client executive offices and other CA&C teams to help develop impactful global strategies and communication approaches that promote the American Express brand and culture both internally and externally.
Responsibilities:
Maintain relationships with clients within the Global Servicing Operations & Enablement organization, which includes Travel & Lifestyle Servicing, providing internal and executive communications support for town halls, executive engagement programs, organization announcements, and leader forums.
Lead communications planning for the rollout of initiatives and changes across frontline teams. Serve as a liaison with other GSG support groups as needed.
As part of a broader external/PR team, work with other CA&C colleagues to promote how American Express’s travel servicing is a competitive advantage for the company.
Develop creative and impactful global communication strategies and communication approaches that engage colleagues and keep them informed of business priorities.
Counsel leaders on how best to develop and rollout communications plans.
Evaluate and support external speaking engagements for senior leaders.
Identify unique and newsworthy opportunities to promote the Global Services Group and its businesses.
Help manage select senior executives’ LinkedIn, including advising on the right type of content for the channel and writing copy to amplify relevant news moments for GSG and the company.
Drawing on a broad network of contacts throughout the business, lead the development of messaging to ensure frontline staff are equipped to handle customer questions regarding sensitive public affairs issues.
Contribute to broader GSG communications efforts, including news and feature content for GSG’s intranet site, as well programs that recognize colleagues.
Help manage external resources, including PR agency, designers, and/or freelancers.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of 5+ years corporate communications or public relations experience
Proven ability to create and implement effective employee communications plans serving broad or global audiences.
Ability to craft media pitches, draft content for social media, develop media FAQs and other materials, and provide monitoring support.
Strong writing and editing skills, including experience writing/editing features for the web/blog, organization announcements, and other types of business updates.
Innovative and flexible individual who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment and can quickly adapt as needed.
Experience working in crisis situations a plus.
Creative, self-motivated team player, with proven ability to effectively collaborate with others.
Ability to counsel senior leaders and influence others as a communications consultant.
Strong verbal and presentation skills.
Excellent judgment. Knows when to ask for help.
A creative eye: web/graphic design, video editing, or photography a plus.
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
