Job Description

Food Bank News, the national nonprofit publication covering best practices in hunger relief, is seeking to fill its first dedicated fundraising position. Having established a program for small donors, we are now seeking a skilled independent contractor to build up other revenue channels.

Since its launch in 2019, Food Bank News has become the industry voice for thought leadership in hunger relief. Our coverage of the sector’s issues and trends regularly drives strategic conversations and planning at the highest levels of food banking.

In this newly created, part-time position, you will develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan with an emphasis on two main audiences – members and major donors. Taking advantage of our established membership program and our existing major-donor collateral, you will engage with potential members and major donors, with the goal of driving new revenue to support our long-term sustainability.

Specific duties related to membership include:

  • Assess our current membership program to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Perform a segmentation of members and develop a “membership journey” plan for each segment, including outreach, follow-up, onboarding, and service delivery.
  • Develop an overall plan for membership growth that includes specific goals and targets.
  • Actively seek new members and build relationships with existing ones.
  • Help to plan and facilitate new programming and benefits for members.

Specific duties related to major donors include:

  • Develop a plan for major-donor growth that includes specific goals and targets.
  • Research and identify prospects for major-donor solicitations.
  • Cultivate potential major gift prospects, develop proposals and conduct solicitations of individual major donors.
  • Evaluate results of the major-donor program and recommend modifications to support success.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports.

Qualifications

  • Work experience in relevant fundraising activities and a proven track record of accomplishment in this area.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Energy, enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Adept at technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

This part-time position – paying $50 an hour for a ten-hour work week – has the potential to grow into a much larger leadership role.
