Capitol Counsel is seeking a part-time intern to join our Natural Resources/Wildfire lobby practice in Washington, D.C. during the Fall of 2025, ideally beginning in early September and ending in December. Spring would commence in January and end in May. The successful candidate will help support the Team’s efforts in this business unit and its expanding client base, primarily by engaging in research, working to help organize and maintain outreach and engagement efforts, and compiling data and examples into client-facing reports. Capitol Counsel is a collaborative, fast-paced place, and candidates should enjoy working with a diverse group of professionals.
This role will provide extensive opportunities to gain professional experience like found on Capitol Hill in a congressional office and will engage directly with senior partners and leadership. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus and interest in congressional and executive branch (United States Forest Service/Department of Interior) activity, an interest in wildfire news, wildfire aviation, forestry and Western issues.
The person in this position will:
- Engage in research assigned to identify news relevant to client needs as well as innovations within our industry, understanding clients primary goals
- Help pull together project proposals, crafting language consistent with client goals, and performing relevant research.
- Monitor hearings and summarize transcripts from said hearings
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Action-oriented, detail-oriented, and proactive
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Solid data analytics skills
- Interest in Western issues, Natural Resources, Wildfire and Aviation
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor’s program
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without a sponsor visa
This position is expected to start in September with preferred availability of 20-25 hours per week. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
