healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and
community.
Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) part-time
bilingual (Spanish and English) Nutrition Education and Outreach Coordinator in the
Community Development division. This position involves working to increase healthy
food access in the Cypress Hills/East New York community. They will coordinate our
healthy food and cooking education, coordinate the healthy foods communications
campaigns, and conduct overall community outreach for food/cooking, and increase
enrollment in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits (also known
as food stamps). This role will work internally, collaborating with other CHLDC divisions,
as well as externally, coordinating with our local and city partners. This is a great

Principal Duties:
● Develop, coordinate and conduct hands-on cooking/nutrition education workshops (2 hours each) using the Comprando Rico y Sano UnidosUS curriculum by partnering with CHLDC divisions, local partners and institutions, and the CHLDC farm stand.
● Reach 175 individuals, conduct 10 cooking demonstrations (virtually and/or in person), and conduct five (5) grocery store tours (virtually and/or in person), over the course of the grant year.
● Conduct local outreach to attract and engage community members in healthy food preparation and programming. This may include, but is not limited to, flyering, tabling, emailing, calling, and the design of promotional materials.
● Develop and send healthy food and nutrition information and notifications about neighborhood events and opportunities via social media.
● Track and maintain confidential records of work using different databases.
● Demonstrate commitment to community building and community organizing.
● Attend staff, Community Development Division, community advocate team meetings, and other meetings as necessary.
● Perform other duties and administrative support as assigned.
● Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Position Requirements:
● Bilingual (English-Spanish) required
● Resident of Cypress Hills/East New York preferred
● Experience with healthy food preparation and nutrition education to groups, with a focus on low-income populations of all ages
● Knowledge of or enthusiasm about working with food, healthy eating, and stretching food dollars
● Computer literacy and willingness and ability to learn new software and databases
● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and compassionate listener
● Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
● Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative on your own
● Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather (rain, shine or snow), sometimes standing and walking for extended periods, and carrying heavy and bulky items (up to ~25 pounds)
● Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19
● High School diploma or equivalency required and 3-5 years relevant experience preferred.
Work Environment:
This position works in an office setting and in the community of Cypress Hills and East New York. This position requires interacting with community members with empathy.

Travel:
Local travel for outreach around the neighborhoods of Cypress Hills and East New York, Brooklyn, is required.
Supervision:
Reports directly to the Verde Project Manager.
Compensation:
