ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Student Veterans of America (SVA) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit headquartered in Washington, DC, with a mission to empower student veterans. SVA serves student veterans and military-connected students directly through its membership, connecting them with resources, career pathways, community, and advocacy from enrollment through graduation and into meaningful careers. SVA delivers this support through its national team, its partners, and a network of campus chapters. For more information, visit www.studentveterans.org.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Partnership Manager is a frontline revenue role on SVA’s new Partnership Team. This person owns an individual funding target and a portfolio of corporate, foundation, and sponsorship partners. They find new partners, close agreements, and keep and grow existing relationships through exceptional customer service. They understand the full range of reasons a company partners with SVA and sell to each of them, such as philanthropy, talent acquisition, HR and employee engagement, and marketing to the military-connected community.
This role suits someone who manages a portfolio independently, builds genuine relationships, cares about the impact partners make possible for student veterans, and takes pride in exceeding goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own an individual annual revenue target and build a personal pipeline sized to exceed it.
- Proactively prospect new partners and manage each opportunity from first contact to signed agreement.
- Engage across a partner’s whole organization, including corporate giving, talent acquisition, HR, and marketing, recognizing that one partner may want to recruit SVA members, reach them as customers, and support the mission, and building a single partnership that serves all three.
- Sell sponsorships and exhibitor packages for NatCon and other signature events.
- Write persuasive proposals, grant applications, and sponsorship decks, and meet every funder deadline.
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned partners, responding promptly and delivering every commitment on time.
- Own impact reporting for every partner in the portfolio, working with Research & Impact to deliver each report on time.
- Connect partners with volunteer, employee engagement, and programming opportunities across SVA, coordinating with internal teams to deliver them.
- Own renewals for the portfolio, starting early, flagging at-risk partners, and preventing churn.
- Grow partners through upgrades, multi-year agreements, and new opportunities across SVA.
- Keep Salesforce current and accurate so the pipeline and forecasts can be trusted.
- Work with Marketing on partner announcements, co-branded content, and campaigns such as Giving Tuesday and year-end.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Within the first 12 months, the Partnership Manager will have:
- Met or exceeded their individual revenue target.
- Closed new partners sourced through their own outreach.
- Renewed assigned partners at or above the team’s retention target.
- Delivered every partner benefit and report on time.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- 3 to 5 years of experience in nonprofit development, corporate partnerships, sponsorship sales, or business development.
- A record of meeting or exceeding individual revenue goals and closing five-figure or larger partnerships, sponsorships, or grants.
- Experience writing grant applications or funding proposals to corporate or foundation funders.
- Account management experience with a record of renewals and growth.
- Strong writing and presentation skills for corporate and foundation audiences.
- Hands-on CRM experience managing contacts, opportunities, and pipeline; Salesforce preferred.
- Experience supporting marketing or fundraising campaigns.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio independently, prioritize competing deadlines, follow up consistently, and anticipate partner needs.
- Experience with the military and veteran community or higher education preferred.
- Experience selling to, or a demonstrated interest in selling to, talent acquisition, HR, or marketing buyers within a company preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
