The Utah League of Cities and Towns (ULCT) is seeking a dynamic individual to conduct research, collect data, and analyze information on issues impacting local government to inform state and local policymakers. This individual will work with city and town elected officials, staff, legislators, and state employees to help ULCT fulfill its mission.
Position Summary:
The Utah League of Cities and Towns is the advocacy and training organization for Utah’s 255 municipalities. This position’s primary task is to research and provide data on local government issues to assist ULCT’s legislative advocacy. The policy analyst will work with other members of the advocacy team to compile and analyze data on a variety of topics including housing trends, infrastructure pressure points, land use, and water use. The policy analyst will also track legislation, analyze its impacts on cities and towns, and represent ULCT to the Utah State Legislature.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Compile and analyze data that ULCT uses to support legislative positions and assist cities
- Communicate policy findings with ULCT membership
- Facilitate webinars and membership polling
- Any other projects and duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of state legislative processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that include the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with various municipal officials, coworkers, and partners
- Ability to work cooperatively and productively with others to solve problems
- Quantitative analytical skills and ability to work with complex spreadsheets
- Ability to work independently and perform effectively
Preferred Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in public policy, political science, data analysis, or a related field
- Experience identifying information gaps and executing research and data collection to fill them
- Experience using Excel, Qualtrics, or Slido
Compensation: $50,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience; URS retirement, additional 401K, employer funded cafeteria plan with options for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
