Job Description
The Policy Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing policies and community-engaged research that support environmental and climate justice goals. This role bridges policy advocacy, research, and community planning, with a strong focus on pollution prevention, budgeting, energy, transportation equity, land use, and community resilience. The ideal candidate will have a balance of technical policy knowledge, strong writing skills, research experience, and community-centered engagement.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Policy Leadership & Advocacy
- Draft legislation, policy memos, and position statements informed by frontline communities.
- Lead development of policies that advance environmental and climate justice, with a focus on clean energy, transportation, land use, and climate resilience.
- Monitor, interpret, and respond to state and local policy developments.
- Represent coalition perspectives in meetings with policymakers, government agencies, and coalitions.
- Track and respond to policy developments at state and local levels (e.g., CETA, HEAL, SEPA, GMA).
Community-Based Research & Data
- Produce reports, policy briefs, and accessible materials for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Design and implement research projects in partnership with communities (topics may include air quality, mobility justice, local pollution, and climate resilience).
- Analyze and synthesize community-generated data from listening sessions and qualitative interviews.
- Manage and support development of community data platforms and knowledge-sharing tools.
- Manage community data hubs, including qualitative databases and mapping tools.
- Translate research findings into accessible materials for advocacy and public education.
Coalition Building & Community Engagement
- Facilitate community-led planning and policy development processes.
- Coordinate and support community events, workshops, and forums.
- Build strong relationships with community-based organizations and leaders.
- Ensure coalition members have tools, information, and leadership opportunities to participate in public processes.
- Support coalition members and partners in developing and implementing local climate plans, especially in transportation, land use, and resilience.
- Facilitate community forums and planning workshops to identify needs and co-develop solutions.
- Provide technical assistance to partners working on Just Transition planning at local and regional levels.
Engagement, Education, and Capacity Building
- Write reports, blogs, and public comments that share research and policy insights.
- Develop communication materials, talking points, and educational tools for diverse audiences.
- Convene listening sessions, work groups, and events to align community input with research and policy work.
- Present at conferences, community events, and stakeholder meetings.
Project Coordination & Internal Collaboration
- Work cross-functionally to align research, advocacy, and programmatic goals.
- Coordinate timelines and deliverables across multiple teams and partners.
- Contribute to organizational learning and knowledge sharing.
