About Billy Freeland for City Council

Billy Freeland is a community leader, progressive activist, and attorney and has spent his career fighting for social justice, advocating for innovative urban policies, and building economic opportunities to make New York a more affordable, more just, and more vibrant city for all. He is one of the leading candidates in the race to replace Ben Kallos in New York City Council District 5 (Upper East Side, Yorkville, Midtown East, Roosevelt Island, and East Harlem).

Billy is running because, with our city is challenged like never before, we need a New Deal for New York -- a New Deal that is green, racially just, and decarceral. Covid-19 has exposed gross inadequacies in our institutions and shameful racial disparities in our economy, schools, and health care system. It has underscored our government’s failure to plan comprehensively for what New York City can and should be in the 21st century. We need leaders who will take charge against the affordability crisis, climate change, persistent inequality, and systemic racism. Learn more about Billy and his campaign at: billyfreeland.com
