Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) is seeking a Press/ Digital Assistant to support the office’s earned, paid franking, and social media strategies. This position is based in the Washington, D.C. office.

The ideal candidate will possess strong writing skills, experience with video and graphic design, an interest in traditional and digital media strategy, and a good sense of humor. Attention to detail is a must. Ties to Long Island are a plus, but not required.


Responsibilities: 

  • Craft engaging social media content in the Congresswoman’s voice to promote the member’s priorities and respond to breaking news.
  • Assist with drafting and distributing press releases, advisories, constituent newsletters, statements, and speeches.
  • Work with the Communications Director in identifying new ways to engage with members of the press and online audiences.
  • Take high-quality photos and videos of the Congresswoman for compelling content.
  • Monitor and compile daily news clips mentioning the Congresswoman.
  • Maintain the official website and press list.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Outstanding written and digital communications skills.
  • Experience with the Adobe Suite, Canva, or other content creation tools. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and think critically in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Commitment to understanding the Member’s unique voice and messaging.
  • Strong visual intelligence and photography skills.
  • Sharp attention to detail.

This position will sometimes require evening and weekend work and will report to the Communications Director.

The salary range for this position is $55,000-$60,000, commensurate with experience.
