The office of Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., M.D., is currently seeking a Press Assistant/Digital Assistant for the Washington, D.C., office. Responsibilities include facilitating the day-to-day operations of an active press operation for a new House Democrat, drafting and creating innovative content for the member’s social media platforms, designing graphics and videos, fielding and executing video requests, photographing events, overseeing a press intern, and performing other duties as assigned.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Communications Director in creating a proactive digital plan to highlight his district, legislative, and constituent service work, including strategies for growth across platforms.
  • Draft and edit releases, statements, talking points, newsletters, captions, and quotes – including rapid response to breaking news.
  • Record, edit, and caption short-form videos for social media, press events, and constituent communications. 
  • Work collaboratively with the district office to ensure a strong local-first focus in written and digital products. 
  • Monitor and compile daily press clips, traditional media coverage, and social media metrics. 
  • Staff, photograph, and film the Congressman at scheduled events and meetings.
  • Support the Communications Director and staff on other assignments as needed. 
  • Suggest new approaches and pitch opportunities for traditional and digital communications 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Familiarity with various digital platforms, maintaining websites, and managing social media accounts for a political candidate, elected official, or organization. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficient in graphic design and video editing. 
  • Self-starter who is able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Some experience with franked communications preferred but not required.
  • New Jersey ties are a plus.
