Press Secretary

Senior Democrat seeks a Press Secretary for her Washington, D.C. office to help implement a proactive and strategic communications agenda at the national level. This position works closely with the district-based Communications Director and digital staffer. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer, politically savvy, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure. Applicants should have experience in media relations, drafting press materials, staffing a principal, and managing rapid response in a fast-paced communications environment. Existing relationships with D.C. and national media are strongly preferred.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting the day-to-day operations of an active and high-volume D.C. press shop
- Drafting press releases, op-eds, speeches, and other communications materials
- Producing and editing graphics, photo, and video content
- Assisting with franked and paid media efforts
- Staffing the Congresswoman at events and interviews
- Managing the press intern
- Performing other communications-related duties as assigned
This is not an entry-level role. Prior Hill, agency, or campaign communications experience is strongly preferred. California ties and a sense of humor are a plus.
