Job Description
Senator Cory A. Booker's office is hiring a Press Secretary to serve as the primary on-the-record spokesperson in a fast-paced, high-volume DC-based communications office. This is not an entry-level position — the ideal candidate is a mature, experienced communicator who thrives under deadline pressure and works well as part of a collaborative team.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for reporters and bookers, fielding inquiries and developing relationships with local, in-state, and national press
Plan, organize, and staff press events, interviews, press conferences, and other media opportunities for the Senator
Work on and off the record to shape media narratives and manage a high volume of press requests accurately and efficiently
Draft and edit press releases, statements, talking points, and briefing memos under tight deadlines with a high bar for accuracy
Build relationships with TV bookers, producers, and increasingly, digital influencers, creators, and podcasters
Work closely with the Communications Director, Deputy Communications Director, and other members of the communications and legislative teams to plan and execute strategy
Ideal Qualifications
Multiple years or cycles of Capitol Hill, campaign, or political communications experience (not entry-level)
On-the-record experience with existing reporter relationships
Comfort working across the traditional media ecosystem as well as digital creators and podcasters
Strong writing and editing skills
Detail-oriented, proactive, and reliable under deadline pressure, with a collaborative mindset and a sense of humor
