Senator Chris Van Hollen seeks a Press Secretary OR Deputy Communications Director to join his active communications team, working to develop and implement press strategies for both national/Capitol Hill media and Maryland. In addition to supporting long-term strategy, daily responsibilities include closely monitoring news; fielding reporter inquiries; managing tv & radio interviews; planning, organizing, and staffing press events; pitching reporters; drafting press releases and memos; and working collaboratively across departments. Ideal candidates are hardworking, proactive, and detail-oriented communicators who have excellent writing, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills; creativity; sound judgement; and the ability to balance competing deadlines. This is not an entry-level position and applicants should have previous Capitol Hill, campaign, or similar communications/press experience and an understanding of key issues before Congress. Title, salary, and scope of role are commensurate with experience.
