Senator Maria Cantwell seeks experienced, detail-oriented Press Secretary to join active Washington, DC communications team. The Press Secretary develops strategies and executes tactics to advance the Senator’s messaging on key national issues. Responsibilities include drafting press releases, statements, talking points, remarks, and short memos; pitching in-state and national reporters, responding to media inquiries, and cultivating relationships with media members; helping plan and staff the Senator at in-state press events; and supporting day-to-day operations of the communications team. Ideal candidate is a self-starter, possesses excellent writing and organizational skills, can handle multiple tasks on short deadlines, and has good political instincts. To be successful, applicant should be able to think like a reporter. Pacific Northwest ties and five or more years of previous Congressional, campaign, or journalism experience are strongly preferred. Position entails occasional travel to the State of Washington and the need to work some nights and weekends.
