DOROT’s wide array of innovative programs and services for older adults bring the generations together (DOROT means “generations” in Hebrew) to alleviate loneliness and social isolation. The older adults comprising the DOROT community range in age from 60 to over 100 and represent a diverse population. Approximately 6,000 volunteers of all ages are recruited every year to support DOROT’s staff of social workers and program and volunteer administrators to improve the lives and health of older adults and address the challenges of an aging society.
Position Summary: The Program Assistant plays an integral role in the Constituent & Community Services department, providing operational, communication and administrative assistance to a variety of programs that support independent aging and social connections, including DOROT’s Friendly Visiting, Kosher Meals at Home, Door to Door and Synagogue Partnership programs. This is a unique opportunity to learn about different service delivery models, hone customer service skills and interact with older adults by phone and onsite. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with and improving life for older adults; is highly organized and detail oriented; and possesses a “can-do” attitude.
General Department Responsibilities:
- Support the CCS team with older adult outreach and program/project follow-up.
- Coordinate, support, and keep clear, accurate records of older adult client interactions and outreach efforts.
- Respond with patience to challenging constituents and report concerns and problems to appropriate program staff members.
- Assist with special projects and events/workshops both at DOROT and in the community and serve as liaison to related community partners.
- Partner with other departments on new program offerings, helping to recruit older adult clients and make travel arrangements for them when needed.
- Help with pre- and post-event logistics, planning for Holiday and Seasonal Package Deliveries and other intergenerational programming.
- Conduct surveys with seniors via phone.
- Maintain inventory of and disseminate program materials.
- Act as back-up support for CCS programs as needed and cover DOROT’s front desk reception area upon request.
- Collect, track and maintain client activity using DOROT’s online database (Salesforce platform); this involves routine data entry and monthly review of statistics for both internal reports and analysis of trends.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Professional administrative or program experience preferred
- Affinity for engaging with and relating to older adults
- Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, stay organized, and be detail-oriented
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other staff
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, particularly Excel
- Experience with Salesforce a plus
- Spanish language skills a plus
- Availability to work a minimum of six Sunday and/or evening events per year, which includes DOROT’s signature Package Deliveries.
