POSITION SUMMARY:
To be an active member of a comprehensive seamless system of service delivery that enables older adults to remain in their own homes or in a least restrictive community-based setting, for as long as possible. The Program Coordinator is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative, person-centered programming for older adults across in-person, hybrid, and remote platforms. This position leads the Virtual Senior Academy, provides technology assistance and digital inclusion support, and enhances participant engagement through creative program development, social media outreach, and collaborative partnerships.
Working within the AgeWell Pittsburgh network and in alignment with Allegheny County Department of Human Services/Area Agency on Aging (ACDHSAAA), National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) standards, and JCC values, this role supports a comprehensive system of services that promotes social connection, lifelong learning, health, and independence for older adults.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development & Innovation:
- Designs and implements creative, evidence-informed programs for older adults across wellness, education, social connection, arts, and lifelong learning.
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates in-person, hybrid, and virtual programming, ensuring accessibility and engagement at multiple ability levels.
- Oversees and expands the Virtual Senior Academy, including instructor coordination, scheduling, content development, and participant support.
- Identifies emerging trends in older adult programming and pilots innovative offerings that respond to participant interests and community needs.
- Collaborates with AgeWell Pittsburgh partners to develop cross-site and network-wide programming.
- Monitors program initiatives closely to ensure that the Department is in keeping with community funders, governmental bodies and other stakeholder expectations.
Digital Engagement & Technology Support:
- Provides hands-on technology assistance to older adults (devices, Zoom, social media, learning platforms, email, apps, digital content creation and safety).
- Develops digital literacy workshops and one-on-one tech coaching models.
- Supports participants in accessing hybrid and remote programs, reducing barriers to digital participation.
- Coordinates with IT and program staff to ensure smooth delivery of virtual programming.
Communications & Social Media:
- Develops and manages AgeWell program social media content in coordination with JCC marketing.
- Creates engaging digital communications that promote programs, highlight participant stories, and increase visibility.
- Assists with designing digital flyers, program calendars, and virtual engagement campaigns.
Program Coordination & Operations:
- Coordinates schedules, instructors, volunteers, and space/technology needs for programs.
- Tracks participation data and outcomes in required software systems in accordance with AAA and NISC guidelines.
- Assists with special events, intergenerational initiatives, and community partnerships.
Participant Engagement & Community Building:
- Builds meaningful relationships with participants to support retention and engagement.
- Identifies service gaps and contributes to program solutions that address social isolation and access barriers.
Compliance & Collaboration:
- Ensures programs align with AAA Senior Center services, NISC accreditation standards, and funder requirements.
- Attends AgeWell Pittsburgh and JCC meetings as required.
- Works collaboratively with Agewell staff, community partners, volunteers and instructors to ensure high-quality person-centered services.
General Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
While performing the above duties, this position routinely requires handling persons and/or objects and moving safely throughout the building. This position may include walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. This position requires communicating, either verbally or in writing. This position frequently requires moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. This position occasionally requires moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to complete all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Gerontology, Human Services, Education, Communications, Recreation, or a related field, Master’s Degree preferred, with at least two years’ experience in program development, older adult services, education, digital engagement, and/or community programming.
