Role Description:

Give leadership to the development and maintenance of quality scouting programs located in underserved communities and schools in the Greater Houston and surrounding areas in accordance with Scouting America’s Mission Statement. Work with school age youth 1st-5th grade.


Position Responsibilities:

a. Complete online learning training for Program Specialist

b. Participate in other required trainings essential for job performance including but not limited to, Sexual Harassment training.

c. Follow the Sam Houston Area Council(SHAC) Staff Operating Principles and keep yourself as one who is consistent with the Scout Law and Oath

d. Be able to work with and to always demonstrate responsible behavior with children

e. Use and wear the complete scouting uniform (or other appropriate attire as required)

f. Know and maintain the expense report procedure(s), as well as other documents required for job performance.

g. Support the Lead Program Specialist and the schools of the service area

h. Be familiar with, follow and bring the Cub Scout Curriculum and any other support material approved by SHAC.

i. Be responsible for scouting activities as prescribed in the Program Specialist Field book.

j. Participate in required trainings and maintain required certifications.

k. Provide a quality camping experience at scheduled camping events.


Minimum Requirements:

· 21 years of age or older

· Valid Drivers License

· Valid Automobile Insurance

· Ability to work in the U.S.

· Reliable Transportation

· Ability to work minimum of 3 days per week (Monday is required)

· Starting pay $15

· $30 phone stipend monthly

  • · Pre-approved mileage reimbursement $0.70 per mile

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills.
    • Committed to personal productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.
    • Scouting background is helpful but not required.

  • General Overall Qualifications

    • Strong communication skills and must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences.
    • Must exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills characterized by enthusiasm, punctuality, responsibility, and creativity.
    • Needs to maintain current driver’s license and automotive insurance and drive own personal motor vehicle for council business (to be reimbursed for mileage at current IRS-approved rate).
    • Employment is subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.
    • Strong organizational and people management skills
    • Communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with youth and families
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team


    Physical Requirements: 100% of time

    This role involves a level of physicality, and requires the following abilities: reaching, standing, walking, carrying, grasping, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, computer keyboarding, driving motor vehicle.

    While in office, work is usually sedentary. Must be able to sit and work at a computer keyboard and be able to perform repetitive and stretching motions.

    Occasional heavy lifting of boxes, files and equipment (up to 30 pounds); while working at events and camps, position has more physical requirements, including lifting of boxes, files and various equipment (may be up to 50 pounds).


    Compensation:

    • $15 starting pay with performance based wage increases
