Title: Director, Public Affairs
Location: Sacramento, CA (hybrid, minimum 3 days in office)
Summit Strategy Group (Summit) is a California-based consulting firm that specializes in public affairs and corporate reputation, issues management and crisis communications, and ESG consulting.
Summit’s Public Affairs practice in Sacramento is focused on the issues that matter most: energy policy and the environment, natural resources and land use, water policy, higher education, and sustainability, to name a few. We pride ourselves on approaching all issues and challenges with objectivity, agility, curiosity, and creativity.
We are seeking a Sacramento-based public affairs professional to join us. You are the right person for this role if you:
- Have experience working for a public affairs or communications firm, or have in-house experience in politics, policy, or communications work
- Are comfortable advising senior leaders in companies, associations, or government

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Taking lead roles on priority client accounts, including acting as the main client contact, setting the strategy, and leading the team implementing the engagement
- Strong earned media skills and solid understanding of digital communications
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of issues and news related to priority client interests
- Supporting new business development and bringing leads into the firm
- Managing account budgets, staffing plans, and timelines
- Developing and managing scopes of work
- Supporting and helping develop new talent and direct reports
Qualifications
- At least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Strong writing and editing capabilities
- 7 or more years of experience working in public affairs, communications, government relations, or a related public relations field
- Agency experience is preferred
- Must be based in Sacramento
- Experience leading teams
This is a hybrid (in-office/remote) position based out of our Midtown Sacramento office and reporting to the Public Affairs practice lead. We require at least three days a week in the office to work alongside the team.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience
