Job Description
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Government Relations Specialist (Consumer Public Policy Engagement Senior Lead) who will report to the Head of Public Policy Engagement on the Government Relations & Public Policy Team and will focus on the development of enterprise public policy positions relating to Wells Fargo Consumer Banking, Consumer Lending, Community Reinvestment, Human Resources, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
This position supports the following Wells Fargo divisions: Consumer and Small Business Banking, Consumer Lending, Human Resources, and Diverse Segments, Representation, and Inclusion.
In this role, you will:
- Serve as a strategic advisor and leader for public policy position development for consumer and community reinvestment issues, including topics such as overdraft, branch distribution, small business loan data collection, credit reporting, small dollar lending, serving the underbanked and unbanked, and Community Reinvestment Act reform.
- Engage extensively with senior leaders to identify public policy priorities, keep them informed on the status of public policy matters, and equip them with the information needed to form consumer and community reinvestment policy positions.
- Build and lead cross-functional internal committees and working groups to develop public policy positions and recommend approaches to advocacy, including the development and drafting of Wells Fargo comment letters.
- Actively participate in trade association working groups related to the development of consumer and community reinvestment public policy.
- Represent Wells Fargo in external forums to discuss consumer and community reinvestment public policy positions and perspectives.
- Collaborates and coordinates with the GRPP team, Public Affairs, Legal, Risk, Regulatory Relations, Business Units, Communications, and other internal stakeholders to develop public policy positions.
- Facilitates strategic engagement for Wells Fargo executives and subject matter experts with Executive Branch agencies, primarily including, but not limited to CFPB, OCC, the Fed, and Treasury on non-supervisory matters.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Government Relations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience analyzing and developing public policy and/or analyzing legal issues related to consumer finance.
- Experience building strong relationships and working collaboratively across large organizations.
- Experience working with Executive Branch agencies, either interfacing with them directly or preparing senior officials/executives for engagements.
- Experience presenting information in a manner that persuades, educates, and enhances understanding at all levels.
- Experience identifying issues of importance and appropriately socializing internally with partners/line of business leaders who have a need to know.
- Experience counseling senior leaders regarding public policy.
- Experience using good judgment taking initiative and thriving under change.
- Ability to navigate a large, complex organization and work well with individuals who have limited or no public policy experience.
Job Expectations:
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
- Hybrid in-office model (minimum of 3 days per week in office location)
