About the Role:
As public relations manager, you will play a crucial role in developing and executing public relations campaigns on behalf of Brian Hamilton and the Brian Hamilton Foundation. You will be responsible for building and maintaining media relationships and securing impactful media coverage to increase brand visibility. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills and will be a creative, strategic thinker. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with one to five years’ work experience in a related field or role.
The person in this position will work directly with entrepreneur Brian Hamilton. Hamilton is the founder of Sageworks (now Abrigo), one of the world’s very first fintech companies, which has helped thousands of banks and millions of business owners. He also founded Inmates to Entrepreneurs, an international program that helps justice-involved people start low-capital businesses. He is known for his pioneering work in fintech, his advocacy for small businesses, and his commitment to criminal justice reform. Hamilton’s work has been showcased by major media outlets like CNBC and "Good Morning America," and he starred in ABC’s "Free Enterprise" TV series, an award-winning show based on Inmates to Entrepreneurs.
Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists.
- Schedule and conduct meetings in-person with journalists in NYC.
- Pitch compelling story angles to media outlets, securing placements in top-tier publications, broadcast channels, and online platforms.
- Create and distribute compelling pitches, press releases, datasets and other PR materials.
- Monitor media and industry trends to identify opportunities.
- Measure and analyze the impact of PR efforts, providing regular reports on media coverage and campaign performance.
What We’re Looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.7+
- 1-5 years of relevant work experience
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort meeting and exceeding individual goals such as daily outreach targets
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated success in booking meetings or media interviews, working directly with journalists, or working in a startup environment are a plus
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
