Zohran for NYC seeks a Rapid Response and Events Manager to serve as a key member of the communications team. This role is responsible for monitoring news and political developments in real time, crafting fast and effective responses, and proactively shaping the media narrative. This role also involves organizing events and supporting surrogate communications. The ideal candidate is a sharp writer with strong relationships in the NYC press corps, and calm under pressure with a deep understanding of New York City politics and media landscape. This person might also serve as a campaign spokesperson and pitch stories as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate Rapid Response Operations: Create rubrics for rapid response and prepare statements in response to incoming. Project manage the team across departments to ensure coordination in key moments. Coordinate with junior staff engaged in media monitoring to enable the campaign to respond quickly as issues arise. 
• Draft Statements and Guide Through Approval: Write and edit public statements, talking points, surrogate support materials and press releases on tight deadlines.
• Coordinate Message Discipline: Work closely with the communications director and senior staff to ensure message and outreach alignment across all campaign arms during rapid response moments, including political and digital.
• Anchor External Events: Organize and bottom line public and earned media events, coordinating with key internal and external stakeholders. 
• Proactive Media Engagement: Where needed, pitch timely stories and op-eds, and build relationships with political reporters to help shape coverage in the campaign’s favor.

Qualifications:

• 4–6+ years experience in political communications, campaigns, government, or relevant media roles; experience on NYC political campaigns preferred
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, especially under pressure.
• Relationships with key NYC political reporters and media outlets.
• Experience managing or contributing to rapid response operations.
• Ability to distill complex issues into concise and persuasive messages.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-stakes campaign environment.
• Highly organized, discreet, and responsive.
• Background in oppo or political research preferred.

Compensation and terms:

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried role at $7,500/month (equivalent to $90,000/year), plus a health insurance stipend.
