U.S. Senator Tim Kaine’s Central Virginia Regional Office, located in Richmond, Virginia, is in search of a Regional Director. This Central Virginia Regional office serves: Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Greensville, Brunswick, Mecklenburg, Luneburg, Charlotte, Prince Edward, Goochland, Powhatan, Nottoway, Ameila, Cumberland, Buckingham and Fluvanna counties, as well as Richmond City. This is a mid-level position and reports directly to the State Director. Duties will vary over time but generally include:

Outreach: As regional director you will serve as Senator Kaine’s primary representative in the community with the responsibility of assisting constituents and serving as a bridge to the federal government and federal agencies. You will represent the Senator at events and engage with diverse constituencies; ensure that the Senator has a presence in the region; and work with local and grass-root leaders to communicate the needs of the region to the Senator. You will also have some casework responsibilities; supervise the interns. Other specifics task include but are not limited to:



· Representing Senator Kaine in public forums

· Assisting Virginians with federal issues, opinions and needs

· Coordinating with other department staff, including press

· Planning, organizing and executing the Senator’s meetings and travel in the Region

· Interacting with federal agencies and staff on behalf of Virginians

· Advising and briefing Senator Kaine on germane issues

· Anticipating communication needs and federal legislative and administrative solutions.

Constituent Services and Office Management: The Regional Director is responsible for running the Central Virginia office. This requires ensuring that calls and walk-ins are handled in a professional, informed, and polite manner and that constituents are helped. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the Regional Director to ensure that all written communications are accurate, timely, and reflect Senator Kaine’s standards.

Academy Nominations: The Regional Director is responsible for managing the academy nominations process. This includes processing 500-600 applications, prepping the applications for review by the nominations committee and sending out acceptance/regret letters.

Casework: The Regional Director manages an assigned portfolio of federal agencies and manages constituent casework with those agencies on a statewide basis. They are expected to analyze their portfolios for trends and policy initiatives and brief the Senator and other staff members with recommendations. Portfolio assignments are determined by the Casework Director and may be adjusted from time to time.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and excellent management skills. This person should be poised, polished, and courteous in interactions with constituents and colleagues. Strong administrative and organizational skills are a MUST. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and operate the constituent service system (IQ) and a multi-line telephone system are required. A working knowledge of federal, state, and local government is desirable. Compensation determined by experience.
