Job Description
The U.S.-China Commission, a legislative branch commission, is hiring a Policy Analyst or Research Assistant on its Security and Foreign Affairs Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly collaborative team of skilled analysts contributing to the U.S.-China policy discussion in Washington, DC, through forward-leaning research and analysis and by serving as a trusted resource to Congress.
We are looking for individuals with the following qualities:
- Superior research, writing, and communication skills.
- Expertise on China’s political-military system and security apparatus, including CCP decision-making, foreign and defense policy, PLA organization and operations, internal security institutions (MSS, MPS, PAP), and military-civil fusion.
- Understanding of China’s external behavior and strategic influence, including diplomacy and foreign policy, relations with Taiwan and Hong Kong, transnational security challenges, malign influence activities, and global governance and standards engagement.
- Familiarity with emerging, dual-use, and defense-relevant technologies, including China’s defense R&D ecosystem, applications to military capabilities and operations, and implications for U.S. national security, alliances, and Indo-Pacific strategy.
- Mandarin Chinese language proficiency.
