Research Internship Opportunity: Tracing the Legacy of American Missionaries in Korea
We're seeking a motivated research intern (ideal for a graduate student in Korean Studies, History, International Relations, Religious Studies, or a related field) to support an exciting historical research initiative.
This project focuses on identifying and tracing the living descendants of early American Christian missionaries who served in Korea during the late 19th and early 20th centuries through Korea's liberation from Japanese rule following World War II. Preliminary research suggests that some of these descendants remain actively connected to Korea today.
The intern will:
- Conduct historical and genealogical research using archival and public records.
- Identify and trace descendants of American missionaries connected to Korea.
- Research their current involvement in Korea-related initiatives, organizations, or public service.
- Organize findings into a comprehensive database and research report.
- Support outreach efforts connected to the Global Peace Foundation's Free & Unified Korea Initiative.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Graduate or advanced undergraduate student in Korean Studies, History, International Relations, Religious Studies, Genealogy, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Experience using archival resources, historical databases, or genealogy platforms is a plus.
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
- Interest in Korean history, faith-based diplomacy, or international peacebuilding.
