JOB DESCRIPTION


Position Title: Resource Family Coordinator

Employment Classification: Full-Time/Hourly/Non-Exempt

Reports to: Program Director

Department: Youth Connected Program 


Program Summary:

Youth Connected Program is a foster family agency under the division of Orangewood Foundation dedicated to serving foster youth through an innovative model of care that includes resource homes and an onsite dorm component at Samueli Academy in Santa Ana



Requirements

Major Areas of Responsibility:


Responsible for developing and implementing a sustainable plan to recruit, train, and maintain qualified, competent Resource families/homes. This includes guiding families through the entire approval process. This position collaborates with other Orangewood Foundation departments and is responsible for meeting recruitment goals. Additional duties as assigned by direct supervisor.


  • In collaboration with the marketing department, manages the marketing efforts for the recruitment of viable Resource Home applicants through an aggressive marketing plan that is tailored to the population served to retain a pool of approved and qualified families.
  • Is responsible for the development of ongoing professional connections in the community to ensure the visibility of the agency with community partners and to maintain and expand the referral and resource base.
  • Manages the process of recruiting, approval, training, and documentation for all Resource Homes.
  • Creates, leads, and executes trauma-informed and trauma-responsive training for all families for initial and ongoing approval during weekend and evening hours as needed to meet Resource Home schedules.
  • Ensures that regular reports are submitted to funders on contracted program outcomes and deliverables and adheres to all areas of government contract compliance for services rendered.
  • Provides Resource Homes with initial orientation and ongoing training and guides them through the approval process.
  • Maintains all written communications for Resource Homes, including handbooks, recruitment materials, and program documentation.
  • Ensures recruitment data meets operational and performance benchmarks and that data accuracy is maintained for reporting.
  • Acquires, maintains, teaches, and demonstrates knowledge of Child Abuse Prevention, evidence-based practices, and trauma-informed and trauma-responsive frameworks. Maintains a professional environment consistent with licensing regulations, contractual agreements, and agency policies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the California Resource Home approval process, recruitment practices, Title 22, Interim Licensing Standards, and trends in child welfare that impact foster care.
  • Implements recruiting and retention strategies that include outreach, public speaking, and community networking using both interpersonal and technological skills.
  • Leads orientation sessions for prospective Resource Homes both online and in person and provides preservice and ongoing training for Resource Home development.


Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Experience recruiting and supporting Resource Homes is strongly preferred in Orange County and Los Angeles County.
  • Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish required.
  • Knowledge of state, community, and agency resources, including the California RFA process.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and training skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Understanding of systemic issues impacting Transitional Age Youth, including social services, law enforcement, and criminal and civil legal systems.
  • Experience developing new programs and enhancing existing programs.
  • Ability to make sound and timely decisions under pressure and in non-standard situations with independence and accountability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines.
  • Excellent interviewing, observation, diagnostic, and family assessment skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to support program needs.
  • Highly motivated and able to take initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer, typing, and Microsoft Office skills and the ability to use electronic health record or database systems.
  • Ability to travel throughout various counties as required for recruitment and outreach.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination including TB clearance.
  • Maintain certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, First Aid/CPR, and other required trainings.
  • Use of personal vehicle for work-related travel and ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.  
  • Position requires DMV clearance.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • This role is an in-person role with expected weekly in-person presence in the office and in the field. Remote work is secondary to in-person. 
  • Frequently driving to prospective and current resource/foster homes in the community.
  • Given the demanding nature of this role, evening and weekend hours are expected, particularly during high seasons.
  • Position will require use of personal vehicle. 
  • Physical requirements include standing, sitting, typing, bending and lifting up to approximately 50 lbs. (i.e. tables, chairs, food, water, etc.). 
  • Modification to work schedule may be made based on needs of the Foundation.
