Internships
It is always a pleasure to give Maine students an opportunity to see the legislative process firsthand and to serve the citizens of Maine. An internship in my office provides Maine college students with the experience of working for the U.S. Congress and an overview of how a Senate office and staff work for the Senator and for the state. Interns are assigned to work with the Senate office staff who are responsible for the legislative, casework, administrative, and communications operations of the office.
Internships are available on a fall/winter, spring, and summer basis. Positions are offered in my Washington, D.C., office and all six of my Maine Constituent Service Centers, which are located in: Augusta, Bangor, Biddeford, Caribou, Lewiston, and Portland.

An internship in the office of Senator Susan M. Collins provides successful candidates with the experience of working in the United States Congress and an overview of how a Senate office and staff work for the Senator and for the constituents. To apply for an internship with the Washington, D.C. office or one of our Maine constituent service centers, please fill out the online application and be prepared to submit a cover letter, one page resume, writing sample, and at least one letter of recommendation.

In order for applications to be considered, applicants must submit complete questionnaires and all three checklist documents. If you submitted your application, please allow 24 hours for the system to mark it as complete on your end.

To apply for an internship with the Washington, D.C. office or one of our Maine constituent service centers, please fill out the online application and be prepared to submit a cover letter, one page resume, writing sample, and at least one letter of recommendation (the letter of recommendation can be submitted by the applicant or a link can be sent to the recommender to submit.)
In addition to relating your skills and experience to the position, your cover letters should explain why you want to work as an intern, what your long-term career goals are and what you hope to gain from your service. It should also explain areas of interest as an intern: i.e. press, administrative, legislative; specify any legislative issue areas that are of interest.
