Job Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $120,00-$150,000


The Financial Technology Association (FTA) is a trade association representing leading financial technology (fintech) companies. We are seeking a Senior Director of State Government Affairs to lead engagement with state legislatures, regulatory bodies, and other government entities to advance FTA's strategic priorities, shape public policy, foster a favorable regulatory environment for the industry, and support FTA’s Head of Government Affairs. This role involves policy and legislative analysis, advocacy, relationship-building, and travel.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent FTA before state legislatures and state agencies to advocate for and advance key policy priorities.
  • Cultivate and expand relationships with state lawmakers, policymakers, and relevant state-focused organizations.
  • Proactively monitor, analyze, and synthesize relevant state legislation, providing high level perspective and proposed recommendations for FTA engagement.
  • Serve as a recognized point of contact for state officials and partner organizations/coalitions.
  • Support the management of FTA's external consultants across multiple states, assisting in the establishment of clear objectives and performance metrics.
  • Provide consistent, real-time communication with the FTA team and member companies regarding critical state developments.
  • Manage the drafting and distribution of state communications.
  • Draft talking points, testimonies, and position papers, collaborating with the Head of Government Affairs and Head of Policy to ensure strategic alignment and consistent policy positions.
  • Capacity to effectively prioritize competing demands and adapt quickly to emergent, high-priority legislative or regulatory issues. 
  • Maintain and deepen ongoing fluency in FTA’s core issue areas.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in state government affairs, including a history of testifying and consistent engagement with state lawmakers and policymakers. Prior experience or familiarity with financial services and fintech-related policy issues is preferred.
  • Network: Established relationships with key state lawmakers and regulatory stakeholders across the country.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated proficiency as a public speaker and ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking and analytical capabilities, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Policy Knowledge: Foundational knowledge of fintech policy and regulatory issues, coupled with a proactive and continuous commitment to professional development in the field.
