Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) is hiring an experienced Senior Legislative Assistant (LA) to support her work as a Member of the Workers & Families Subcommittee on the House Ways & Means Committee, the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth Caucus and TRIO Caucus, immigration, education, domestic violence, and appropriations matters related to those areas, among other policy issues.

A successful candidate will have substantial practical or policy experience in TANF, child welfare, foster youth, and other social welfare policies. Prior Capitol Hill experience as a Legislative Assistant/Counsel and demonstrated experience working on a committee or with a committee, including the House Ways and Means Committee, is preferred.

The candidate must possess outstanding organizational and time management, attention to detail, and have excellent writing and proofreading skills. Knowledge of Fireside, crisp writing skills, and Wisconsin ties are all pluses. This is not an entry-level position. This is a full time, in person position.

Job duties include:

  • Developing and advancing new legislative and policy ideas
  • Managing and preparing materials for Subcommittee on Workers & Families markups and hearings;
  • Developing legislative proposals and strategy, including drafting amendments and letters, and works to advance those initiatives, in collaboration with Legislative Director, Chief of Staff and other stakeholders.
  • Tracking and evaluating legislation, Executive Branch actions and policies, and other developments in assigned areas of focus; 
  • Drafting letters, memos, floor and committee statements, questions for the records, and other written materials;
  • Representing the office with stakeholders and constituents, and maintaining collaborative relationships with district stakeholders and in-district staff;
  • Tracking relevant news related to their issue areas and providing analysis and recommendations to the Member. 
  • Works with communications team to develop press releases, mass mailings, and newsletters related to assigned portfolio.
