Job Description
The Senior Manager, Communications & Public Affairs is a high-impact, outward-facing role at the intersection of politics, community building, and strategic communications. This position leads efforts to drive public understanding of organizational priorities by building coalitions with local and state elected officials, advocacy groups, and community leaders. From lobbying on state and local legislation to mobilizing grassroots support across the Bay Area, this role is central to advancing the organization’s political priorities and public presence during an especially important time for the organization, in the run-up to hosting mega events like Super Bowl LX and the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and beyond.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Government Engagement
- Build and strengthen high-level relationships with policymakers and government staff.
- Develop and execute strategies to activate government support for goals important to the organization and the communities we serve.
- Design external engagement strategies to support leaders who benefit the community we serve.
Community Outreach
- Represent the team in the local community to strengthen the feedback loop between residents and the organization.
- Identify opportunities for proactive engagement in the local community, fostering positivity and trust through sustained presence and partnership.
Communications Planning
- Serve as communications strategist for internal departments.
- Identify and develop key storytelling opportunities to enhance the organization’s brand.
- Collaborate on crisis communications efforts, crafting response strategies, media statements, and leadership messaging to safeguard brand reputation.
- Draft and review communications assets to ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with the organization’s priorities.
Regulatory Management
- Serve as project manager on activity with regulatory agencies.
- Manage political finance reporting activity.
Internal Coordination
- Provide strategic counsel to executive leadership and business departments, aligning communications and political initiatives with broader organizational goals.
- Directs cross-functional collaboration, ensuring effective integration
Required Abilities and Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication. Speaks clearly and persuasively.
- Efficient problem solver.
- Effective planner capable of setting goals and objectives and managing multiple projects at once.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
- Robust relationships with government contacts across the Bay Area, or ability to create them.
- Keen understanding of the legislative process at the local and state levels.
Education and Experience:
- At least 6-8 years' relevant work experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications or equivalent degree and experience.
- Experience building campaigns in support of business objectives.
- Experience developing and implementing multi-channel communications activities for diverse audiences.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint & Word.

This position requires the ability to work extended hours and/or weekends.
Travel:
60% of local travel time is expected for this position. 5% of travel time is expected for the position both intrastate and interstate, occasionally requiring overnight stays.
