Senior Organizing Manager
Oakland, California (Hybrid)
The California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) is seeking a full-time Senior Organizing Manager. CPEHN is a statewide health policy organization focused on addressing racial and ethnic health disparities. CPEHN works closely with communities of color across the state to elevate local voices and health issues to state and local policymakers and help communities of color advance policy change and structural reform that creates equitable conditions for their communities. This position must be based in the Bay Area Metropolitan Area or Northern California (ex. Monterey, Solano, Central Coast). CPEHN maintains physical offices in Oakland, Sacramento, and Los Angeles. CPEHN has a mandatory up-to-date COVID-19 vaccine policy.
The Senior Organizing Manager is responsible for building and mobilizing culturally, ethnically, and regionally diverse coalitions to support CPEHN's health equity policy agenda. We are looking for someone who has expertise in community engagement and outreach or direct action organizing, project management, facilitation, and has a working knowledge of strategies to advance California's state-wide policy advocacy. Ideal candidates have passion for health equity, and can authentically build and maintain excellent relationships with diverse communities. Key Job Duties:
- Lead coordination of CPEHN’s statewide coalition, including maintaining relationships with existing members, identifying and recruiting new member organizations, development of meeting agendas, facilitation, and executing convenings
- Plan and facilitate meetings with community partners in statewide advocacy spaces, with a particular eye to inclusion of diverse community voices directly impacted by the issues
- Implement effective, multi-level organizing strategy and advocacy plans within health advocacy coalitions
- Strengthen and grow network membership, identifying and executing strategies based in relational organizing to increase membership while maintaining and deepening current grassroots membership
- Build and maintain strong relationships with CPEHN partners
- Shape the strategy and process of policy prioritization for networks and support development of strong and effective policy agendas
- Supervise organizing staff, building the strategy, efficacy, and organizing skills of of other staff.
Essential Skills:
- Experience leading organizing strategy within coalitions to advance specific goals, outcomes, and legislative priorities.
- Familiarity with health policy and budget process in California
- Ability to work effectively and relationally with grassroots partners and coalitions and integrate their voice in advocacy efforts
- Ability to build and make connections with both legislators and community members.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can work independently with minimal supervision
- Cultural humility and ability to understand issues impacting all communities of color
- Ability to work within and across teams, title tiers, and offices
- Demonstrated ability to develop organizing campaigns that move others to strategic action for collective impact over the course of years
- Demonstrated ability to move from research to organizing strategy that moves others to action around policy priorities at a statewide level
- Excellent facilitator skills, with demonstrated expertise in developing strategic in-person and virtual events and meetings that invite meaningful participation from grassroots to grasstops
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience working in a community organizing-related position, preferably at a nonprofit or community-based
- organization.
- At least 3 years of experience working on issues related to communities of color or working
- with communities of
- color.
- At least 2 years of direct supervision experience.
Compensation and Benefits:
$80,500 - $82,500. At CPEHN, we understand the importance of benefits and how they contribute to the overall well-being of our staff.
