Job Description

The Trade Commissioner Service based at the Consulate General of Canada in Miami is looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to work as a Senior Trade Officer. We work mainly with Canadian and US companies to support Canadian exports to Florida, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands (our territory of responsibility), promote direct investment in Canada, and facilitate innovation partnerships.

Senior Trade Officers are typically assigned a business sector(s) and provide business services and advice to Canadian companies that are active in that sector(s). Senior Trade Officers proactively develop and maintain a comprehensive network of local business contacts, identify and share business leads with Canadian clients, develop business plans for their assigned sector(s), organize and deliver events or other activities to promote Canada's trade and innovation capabilities including, for example, business missions between Canada and our territory of responsibility that focus on business-to-business matchmaking. In addition, Senior Trade Officers are also expected to manage their allocated budgets, work collaboratively with colleagues and meet performance targets and outcomes.

Senior Trade Officers must acquire knowledge of the commercial and economic characteristics of their market(s) related to their assigned sector(s), which includes knowledge of: activities and interests of local companies; products, services and technology; business trends; regulations and government priorities; business processes and procedures; and import patterns. In addition, Senior Trade Officers must acquire knowledge of Canadian commercial capabilities in their sector(s) through regular engagement with key contacts in Canada. Assigned sectors can change as local economics warrant and new technologies and priorities emerge.
